Welcome to the Department of Sirorogam & Aruvai Maruthuvam
The Department of Sirorogam and Aruvai Maruthuvam was established on 26th July 2024 under the Faculty of Siddha Medicine, University of Jaffna. The department is dedicated to advancing Siddha medical education, clinical training, research, and patient care in the specialized fields of Sirorogam (ENT, Ophthalmology and Dentistry) and Aruvai Maruthuvam (Surgery). As one of the clinical academic departments of the Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery (BSMS) degree programme, it plays a significant role in producing competent Siddha medical professionals equipped with both traditional Siddha principles and contemporary clinical knowledge.
About The Program
The department offers two major clinical disciplines of the BSMS programme.
Based on the Existing Curriculum in 2008.
- Siroroga Maruthuvam (ENT, Ophthalmology and Dentistry) – 4th BSMS
- Aruvai Maruthuvam (Surgery) – Final BSMS
Based on the Revised Curriculum 2023 in Phase III (Clinical Phase) of the BSMS programme.
The department currently provides academic and clinical training to more than 150 undergraduate students. Through close collaboration with the Siddha Teaching Hospital, Kaithady, and Teaching Hospital Jaffna Professorial Surgical Units, students receive extensive clinical exposure and hands-on training in diagnosis, treatment planning, operative procedures, postoperative care, and patient management and referal.
With a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, clinical training, research, community engagement, and healthcare services, the department strives to preserve and advance Siddha specialty and surgical knowledge while preparing future practitioners to meet contemporary healthcare challenges with competence and professionalism.
