Welcome to the Department of Sirorogam & Aruvai Maruthuvam
The Department of Sirorogam & Aruvai Maruthuvam was newly established on 26th July 2024 in the Faculty of Siddha Medicine, University of Jaffna. This department is one of the eight departments within the BSMS degree program at the Faculty of Siddha Medicine at the University of Jaffna.
About The Program
The department is dedicated to the advancement of Siddha medical education, clinical training, research, and patient care in the specialized fields of Sirorogam (ENT, Eye, Head & Dental Diseases) and Aruvai Maruthuvam (Surgery). As one of the clinical academic departments within the Bachelor of Siddha Medicine and Surgery (BSMS) degree programme, it plays a significant role in producing competent Siddha medical professionals equipped with both traditional and contemporary clinical knowledge.
The mission of the department is to integrate ancient wisdom with modern clinical standards, offering quality healthcare and cultivating the next generation of skilled Siddha practitioners.
The department maintains academic collaboration with University Surgical Unit, Teaching Hospital Jaffna such as Professorial Units and Clinics which are managed by Senior Lecturer, Consultant Surgeons, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna providing for Final BSMS students with exposure to contemporary surgical principles, clinical practices, and referral protocols. This interdisciplinary training enables students to develop a broader understanding of surgical care and facilitates appropriate patient referral when conditions fall beyond the scope of Siddha surgical management.
