Welcome to the Department of Nanjiyal & Paramparai Maruthuvam

The Department of Nanjiyal and Paramparai Maruthuvam was newly established on 26th July 2024 in the Faculty of Siddha Medicine, University of Jaffna. This department is one of the eight departments within the BSMS degree program at the Faculty of Siddha Medicine at the University of Jaffna.

About The Program

There are two subjects, as Nanchieyalum Neethi Maruthuvamum (Toxicology & Forensic Medicine) and Paramparai Maruthuvam (Traditional Medicine) are for the 3rd and 4th BSMS students, respectively. At present the department caters to more than 160 undergraduate students for the BSMS degree programme.

This department focuses on teaching the identification and management of toxicological hazards associated with plants, metals, and minerals, while addressing relevant ethical and legal considerations in medical practice. It also emphasizes skills in the preparation of medicines, diagnostic methods, diagnosis, and management of specific field-related diseases, incorporating traditional aspects for undergraduates.
