Welcome to the Department of Gunapadam
Gunapadam, regarded as the backbone of Siddha Medicine, is one of the oldest and most fundamental departments of the Faculty of Siddha Medicine. It plays a pivotal role in imparting knowledge related to medicinal substances and their therapeutic applications based on classical Siddha principles.
About The Program
The primary objective of the department is the study of medicinal plants, minerals, metals, animal products, and their derivatives, with emphasis on their identification, detoxification, preparation, and therapeutic applications. The department plays a vital role in preserving and advancing traditional Siddha pharmacological knowledge through teaching, research, and community service.
The department offers Patharthaguna Vignanam and Thathujeevaeyal in Phase I (Preclinical), and Mooligaieyal and Marunthu Seimuraieyal in Phase II (Paraclinical). It integrates traditional Siddha knowledge with modern scientific approaches to promote the safe and effective use of Siddha medicines. The department is equipped with four laboratories that facilitate practical learning and skill development for students.
