Report on the Visit of the Ayurveda Commissioner to the Faculty of Siddha Medicine

A.M.G.N. Deepti Sumanasena, Commissioner, Development Commissioner and staff of Department of Ayurveda visited the Faculty of Siddha Medicine on 15 August 2026 from 9.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. The Commissioner and Development Commissioner visit the Faculty
premises and a meeting with the Dean and academic staff.

During the meeting, the Dean and academic staff highlighted several important requirements for strengthening clinical education, training, and healthcare services. A key request was to facilitate the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Faculty of
Siddha Medicine and the Siddha Teaching Hospital to strengthen academic, clinical, and collaborative activities. 

The establishment of a Professorial Unit at the Siddha Teaching Hospital was also requested to enhance clinical teaching, undergraduate and postgraduate training, and research activities. The Commissioner was further requested to provide suitable space for establishing the
Professorial Unit.

In addition, the Faculty requested the appointment of a qualified traditional doctor to support clinical services and teaching, along with the appointment of a Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT). The provision of essential laboratory equipment and facilities was also
requested to strengthen diagnostic services, practical training, and research activities. The Commissioner acknowledged the requests and discussed the importance of strengthening collaboration and infrastructure to support the Faculty’s academic and clinical activities.
