Uyirrasayanam (Biochemistry)

Uyirrasayanam (Biochemistry) is a key discipline in the molecular and biological sciences that attracts students from diverse academic backgrounds by providing a detailed understanding of the chemical processes and molecular mechanisms underlying living systems, enabling them to connect biochemical pathways with normal physiology and disease, and equipping students with essential analytical and laboratory skills for healthcare professionals.

About The Program

This subject provides students with a detailed understanding of the chemical basis of life and the biochemical processes of normal body functions including the structure, function, and metabolism of biomolecules such as carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, vitamins, and enzymes, which are essential for maintaining health and homeostasis.

Through a combination of theoretical instruction and practical laboratory training, students acquire essential knowledge and hands-on skills in Biochemistry in this Department. Practical sessions are currently conducted to reinforce student’s understanding of biochemical principles and techniques. In the future, laboratory facilities will be further enhanced to strengthen practical training opportunities and promote research activities in the field of Biochemistry.
