Participation in Visit Jaffna 2026

The Department of Samooganala Maruthuvam, together with the 4th BSMS students, participated in “Visit Jaffna 2026,” organized by the Northern Province Tourism Bureau, which was held from 15th to 17th August 2026 at Muttaveli Grounds, Jaffna. The main aim of the Department’s participation was to promote and showcase the traditional food and cultural heritage of Jaffna, while highlighting their relevance to health and well-being.

As part of the programme, the Department and 4th BSMS students conducted an awareness activity focusing on traditional foods, particularly small millets, and their uses and importance in daily life. Participants were introduced to the nutritional, cultural, and traditional value of small millets and their role as locally available food resources. The programme emphasized the importance of preserving traditional food practices and passing this valuable knowledge to future generations.

The programme also highlighted the close relationship between traditional food, culture, and healthy lifestyle practices. Visitors and members of the public were encouraged to appreciate traditional dietary practices as an important part of Jaffna’s cultural identity while understanding their contribution to healthy living. The participation of the 4th BSMS students provided them with an opportunity to engage directly with the community, share their academic knowledge, and gain practical experience in health education and public awareness.
