Inauguration and Orientation Programme for Newly Admitted Students (Academic Year 2024/2025)
The Faculty of Siddha Medicine, University of Jaffna, successfully conducted the Inauguration and Orientation Programme for Newly Admitted Students (Academic Year 2024/2025) on Wednesday, 01 July 2026, from 8.30 a.m. onwards at the Siddhar Auditorium, Faculty of Siddha Medicine, Kaithady. The programme was organized to formally welcome the newly enrolled students and to familiarize them with the academic environment, university regulations, and student support services.
The event commenced with the registration of newly admitted students, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the traditional oil lamp and the rendering of the Siddhar Song. The gathering was welcomed by Mr. T.Athiyaman, Deputy Registrar, Faculty of Siddha Medicine, who extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guests, staff members, parents, and students.
The programme was graced by Senior Professor T. Velnambi, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jaffna, as the Chief Guest. In his inaugural address, he warmly welcomed the new students to the University and emphasized the importance of academic excellence, ethical conduct, discipline, and active participation in university life. He encouraged students to make effective use of the learning opportunities and facilities available to become competent healthcare professionals.
The Dean of the Faculty of Siddha Medicine, Dr. (Mrs.) V. Sathiyaseelan, addressed the gathering and highlighted the vision and mission of the Faculty, academic expectations, professional responsibilities, and the importance of maintaining high standards of conduct throughout their academic journey.
The programme also included informative addresses delivered by the Registrar, Acting Librarian, Proctor, Director of the Student Welfare Division, and Marshals of the University of Jaffna. Their presentations provided valuable guidance on university regulations, library facilities, student welfare services, disciplinary procedures, legal responsibilities, and the support systems available for students throughout their studies.
A cultural welcome dance performed by students added colour to the occasion and reflected the rich cultural heritage of the Faculty.
The programme concluded with the vote of thanks delivered by Dr. (Mrs.) R. Miraaj, Student Counsellor, Faculty of Siddha Medicine, who expressed sincere appreciation to the Chief Guest, invited speakers, university officials, academic and non-academic staff, organizing committee, parents, and students for their valuable participation and contribution towards the success of the event.
Dr. (Mrs.) R. Sujeevan the Student Counsellor of the Faculty of Siddha Medicine anchored the programme exceptionally well and successfully conducted the event.
Overall, the inauguration and orientation programme was successfully conducted as scheduled. The event effectively introduced the newly admitted students to the academic and administrative framework of the Faculty and University, while fostering a sense of belonging, responsibility, and enthusiasm as they commenced their higher education journey.
