Child Health Screening Programme and AwarenessSession

The Department of Kuzhanthai and Mahalir Maruthuvam, Faculty of Siddha Medicine, successfully organized a Child Health Screening Programme and Awareness Session on 24th July 2026, from 9.00 a.m. to 12.30 a.m., at the Parashakthi Preschool and Day-care Centre.

Event:
The programme aimed to assess the general health and nutritional status of preschool children while promoting awareness of child health among teachers. 58 children were enrolled at the centre, and all children were screened (Anthropometric measurements (height and weight), Assessment of vital signs, Head-to-toe physical examination) during the programme.

The screening findings revealed that 13 children were underweight, 20 children were found to have symptoms of respiratory tract and 2 were obesity. These findings were communicated to the preschool teachers, who were advised to inform the respective parents so that appropriate nutritional interventions and medical consultation could be arranged. Guidance on promoting healthy dietary practices and
child nutrition was also provided to the teachers.

Overall, the programme was successfully conducted and served as an important initiative for the early detection of nutritional deficiencies and common childhood illnesses. It also enhanced awareness among teachers regarding the importance of regular health screening, proper nutrition, and timely medical care for preschool children.
