A Road Map for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy– TNMGRMU

The Faculty of Siddha Medicine, University of Jaffna, organized a webinar entitled “A Road Map for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) – TNMGRMU” on Friday, 03 July 2026, from 1.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. at the Auditorium, Faculty of Siddha Medicine, University of Jaffna. The programme was conducted under the Knowledge Exchange Programme of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, India, and the University of Jaffna. The webinar was organized with the objective of providing guidance on doctoral studies and research planning.

The programme commenced at 1.30 p.m. with the playing of a pre-recorded Welcome Address by Dr. (Mrs.) V. Sathiyaseelan, Dean, Faculty of Siddha Medicine, University of Jaffna, as she was attending an official meeting. In her address, the Dean warmly welcomed the distinguished resource person, academic staff, medical officers, students, and all participants. She emphasized the importance of the Knowledge Exchange Programme established under the Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Jaffna and the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University in strengthening academic collaboration and promoting research excellence.

Following the welcome address, Dr. (Mrs.) R. Sugeevan, Senior Lecturer, Faculty of Siddha Medicine, University of Jaffna, formally introduced the distinguished resource person, Prof. Dr. N. Kabilan, Head, Department of Siddha, Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, India. She highlighted his extensive academic experience, contributions to Siddha education and research, and his role in promoting postgraduate and doctoral education.

Prof. Dr. N. Kabilan then delivered a comprehensive presentation on the roadmap for pursuing the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree at the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. His presentation covered the academic framework of the PhD programme, eligibility criteria, admission procedures, research proposal development, coursework requirements, research supervision, thesis preparation and submission, publication expectations, and the academic and research opportunities available to doctoral candidates. He also shared practical advice on research planning, selecting research topics, and developing a successful academic career.

The presentation was followed by an interactive discussion session during which participants actively engaged with the resource person by raising questions related to doctoral opportunities. The resource person provided detailed explanations and making the session highly informative and beneficial.

A total of 250 participants, including Senior Lecturers of the Faculty of Siddha Medicine, Medical Officers, and undergraduate BSMS students, attended the webinar.

The programme strengthened the academic partnership between the Faculty of Siddha Medicine, University of Jaffna, and the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University under the existing Memorandum of Understanding.

The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. (Mrs.) R. Sugeevan, Senior Lecturer and Coordinator of the webinar, who expressed sincere appreciation to Prof. Dr. N. Kabilan for his insightful presentation and valuable guidance. She also conveyed gratitude to Dr. (Mrs.) V. Sathiyaseelan, Dean, Faculty of Siddha Medicine, for her continued support and leadership, the University authorities for facilitating the programme, the organizing committee and technical team for their dedicated efforts, and all participants for their active participation. The webinar concluded successfully at 3.30 p.m.
